In CO2 subcritical applications, it is used to reduce the temperature of the pressurised superheated CO2 gas leaving the compressor to a temperature above the condensing temperature for heat recovery or to bring the superheated CO2 gas leaving the compressor to the temperature of the gas entering the 2nd stage compressor. The hot gas under pressure is cooled by ambient air passed through the axial fan above the copper tube/aluminium fin heat exchangers.
